Use Human Tissues in Research and Save Precious Lives

Use of human tissues in medical research is not new. Way back in 1951, first human cell structure was created by a researcher at John Hopkins university. The result of that research was useful in developing polio vaccine and also for further studies in that area. Today the need for research based on tissues taken from human beings very important and it will help to save millions of lives. Pharmaceutical industries and remedy development in yester years was solely or mostly dependent on animal tests. The success rate was dismal compared to the modern development based on humans and their tissues.

Successful Research

New diseases are reported from every part of the world and there are many things to be done. Though the development is rapid considering the slow phase of the past, it needs to be faster than ever. In tests with animals, the results of medicines discovered had good positive results with certain animals and the same medicine gad adverse effects on some other animal and it took years for scientists to find a plausible remedy. If the choice of animal is correct, then the studied based on that animal was successful. Stringent rules disallowed the researchers to use human specimens. Many governments have understood the importance on study of tissues from human beings and have relaxed the rules considerably.

Tissues as product of Treatments

Now the studies have taken new proportions. Instead of medicines, tissues themselves are capable of providing treatment. Researchers could develop natural bones, organs, blood vessels that could replace damaged parts without any need to search for a donor. Studies are at advanced stage in many areas of bio engineering. For example, skins can be recreated to patch up deeply wounded skins, and it will go long way in treating injuries like burns and ulcers.

Though rules are relaxed, there are still more to be done. Scientists must be given freehand and in remedies for killer diseases like cancer, stroke and host of other diseases.
